In the fall of 1956, the Brigadiers drum and bugle corps was formed in the Gloucester Township, sporting their blue pants, white blouse with red and white trim.
The corps entered the activity as a parade and exhibition unit and in 1958, participated in the NJ American Legion (AL) state championships. The following season saw the corps finish in 10th place at the 1959 NJ AL state contest. Over the next two years, the corps continued to progress competitively and officially received sponsorship from the Blackwood VFW Post 2927 in 1962, provided with the support required to remain competitive. They became a regular competitor at the NJ VFW state championships, placing 17th in 1963 and 18th in 1964.
The Brigadiers concluded the 1964 season with a 6th place finish at the National Association championships and competed at the 1965 NJ VFW state championships before returning to parade and exhibition status in 1966.
They disbanded in 1967.
