The Gendarmes drum and bugle corps was formed in 1979 as a parade unit under the leadership of Denis Grégoire.
In 1980, the corps entered the field of competition and won the FAMQ Provincial “Class C” championships. This set a precedent as the first competitive corps in the circuit to ever win a title in their inaugural season. The Aylmer group also placed 3rd that year in the Canadian Nationals “Class C” contest. Returning the following season, the Gendarmes finished in 6th position in the 1981 FAMQ “Class C” finals.
They disbanded in 1982, although a competitive guard remained active for a few years.
