The Continentals drum and bugle corps was founded in October of 1963 by Mike Amico and originally supported by the VFW Post 507 of Lynn. George Bevilacqua Lawrence Wiswall and Louis Amico were also key individuals in the corps’ management.
From their humble beginnings, with borrowed bugles and battered drums from the St. Joseph Rectory, the corps developed from inexperienced and untrained novices the first three years, entering the field of competition in the Mayflower “Class C” circuit in 1967. The following season, the corps won 15 trophies in 18 events during the summer and moved up to the “Class B” division of the Mayflower in 1969.
Over the next two years, the Continentals competed in the World Open “Class B” championships, placing 20th in 1970 and 16th in 1971. They also finished 4th in the finals of the 1971 Mayflower “Class B” contest.
They disbanded in 1972.
