The Chicago Connection drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1976 and based in Wheeling.
The corps worked hard to create a total theme package that saluted Chicago's gangster days. The corps' logo featured a Tommy-gun-toting mobster in a three-piece suit and a fedora guarding the colors. Some of the guard appeared as flappers. The related repertoire included "All That Jazz."
They participated in DCA championship competition three times, from 1977 through 1979. Their highest finish was 11th, in 1977, followed by 13th and 12th place finishes in 1978 and 1979 respectively. The following year, the corps competed in the Midwest in a shortened 1980 season. Among other performances, the Connection marched at several Chicago Bears football games, and were once said to have been complimented by Walter Payton. They also performed once at halftime for the Green Bay Packers.
They disbanded in 1981.
