The Defenders Juniors drum and bugle corps was organized in the mid-60’s as the Holy Family Defenders Juniors, a feeder corps for the Holy Family Defenders.
They operated as a parade unit and its success catapulted the corps into the next era. After going inactive in 1971, the Junior corps reorganized in 1973 as members of the Eastern Massachusetts (E-Mass) circuit, competing in the “Class C” division. They continued their slow ascent within the circuit and earned a finalist position in the 1975 E-Mass “Class C” championships, placing 5th.
The following year saw them move up to a 3rd place finish in the 1976 E-Mass contest and as new members of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) circuit, placed 2nd in the “Junior Division”. In 1977, the corps, under their new name, the Defenders Juniors, resumed field competition over the next 3 years in both the CYO “Junior Division”, where they finished 2nd (1977), 5th (1978) and 4th (1979) and the E-Mass “Class C”, placing 5th in 1977-1978 and 3rd in 1979.
In 1980, the corps merged with the Scarlet Knights of Bridgewater to form the Defending Knights.
