The Cavalliers drum and bugle corps was formed in early 1979 through a merger between the Annunciators and First Corps Cadets, both of Somerville.
Out of the gate, the corps enjoyed immediate success by winning the 1979 CYO “Senior Class” title along with a 2nd position at the Eastern MA circuit “A-2 Class” championships and 4th place finishes at both the American International Open (AIO) “Class A” and World Open “Class B” finals.
The following season saw the Cavalliers’ triumphs resume as they were crowned the 1980 World Open “Class B” champions and won both the CYO “Senior Class” and Eastern MA “A-2” circuit championship flags. They also made the finals at the AIO regionals, placing 3rd and competed at the Drum Corps East (DCE) championship prelims, finishing 18th.
In their final year of competition, the Somerville unit moved up to the “Open Class” category where they placed 14th at the preliminaries of the World Open, and 16th at the DCE contest before participating at the 1981 DCI “Class A” championships in Montreal, where they finished 11th in the prelims. Their season concluded with 3rd position at the CYO and a 6th place finish at the Eastern MA “Class A-1” championships.
They disbanded in 1982.
