The Corps of the North drum and bugle corps was formed in 1962 and sponsored by Posts 3629 and 10029 of Fairbanks. David Shaw directed the corps for a short time while he was stationed in the military in Alaska.
The corps competed in the 1963 VFW Nationals in Seattle, finishing in 17th position. The following year, they were forced to cancel all competitions scheduled for that year due to a disastrous earthquake in the state on Palm Sunday, April 13th, 1964.
The Fairbanks unit remained active within the state in 1965 before disbanding in 1966.
