The Grand Street Boys drum and bugle corps was organized in the early 1930s and was sponsored by the Grand Street Boys American Legion (AL) Post 1025, part of the Grand  Street Boys Association, a social and philanthropic organization, under the leadership of Herman “Hank” Goldstein.

Sporting their nattily attired orange and black uniforms, the Boys were the class of the competition scene, winning the 1937, 1938 & 1939 New York State AL titles. In 1938, they were actually refused entry into junior competition because they were too good, forcing them to compete against, and beat, senior corps in the New York VFW Open. In 1939, judges awarded the Boys a score of 99.25 in the State championships, not because they could find 0.75 in deductions, but because they believed that no corps could be 100 percent perfect.

Upon return from World War II, several junior members from different Posts, including the Grand Street Boys, reunited in 1945 to eventually form the infamous New York Skyliners senior corps.
