"The First Illinois Drum & Bugle Corps Inc. otherwise known as the "Volunteers" were first organized in the fall of 1970. In 1971, their first operating season, the Volunteers made numerous parade appearances, performing in Milwaukee, Chicago and nearly all the local area communities. The Volunteers won two awards in their first season, winning the third place over all music catergory and top drum corps in the Elk Grove Peony Pageant parade and winning the Judges Special trophy as the outstanding youth group entry in the Wheaton Fourth of July Parade competition.
Membership in the corps is open to any boy or girl between the ages of 13 and 21 years. The corps was organized to offer area youth an outstanding year-round activity wich stresses development of pride and character. The Volunteers goal is to become a national champion.
The Volunteers motto: To win with dignity, lose with honor and march proudly always."
