The Golden Monarchs drum and bugle corps, under the sponsorship of the North York Lions club, was formed in the fall of 1962, from the ashes of the Midtowners of Toronto, when they lost their support from a local Lions club.

Richard “Dick” Brown was instrumental in the corps formation, initially sporting a black cadet style top for the brass along with black and gold blouses, formerly from the Midtowners for the drumline and guard, the corps entered the field of competition in 1963, placing 6th in the both the Provincial & Canadian Nationals “Class A” championships.

Due to management issues, the corps competed as a standstill unit in the 1964 Canadian Nationals, winning the title and over the next two years, with the addition of white trousers & gold shakos for the entire corps, competed in the “Class B” division, placing 3rd in the 1965 Canadian Nationals and 2nd in the 1966 Ontario Provincial championships.

They disbanded in 1967.
