The Blue Hornets drum and bugle corps was formed in 1955 and sponsored by the VFW Bethea-Welch Post 72248 and Feustel-Kurdt American Legion (AL) Post 1120 of Lindenhurst. Their original uniform colors were blue pants, white silk shirts and a gold cummerbund.
The corps was mainly a parade and exhibition unit, fielding competitively in 1970 as members of the Long Island and Sounds of Suffolk circuits, placing 5th in the 1971 Long Island circuit championships. In 1972, they were provided new uniforms by the Lindenhurst Post and were taught by Bill and Lil Lindy, both fine horn players and educators. She was the first female bugler in the history of “All-Age” corps when she marched with and taught the Sunrisers in the late '50s. They remained active from 1973 to 1975 within the community. Corps directors over the years included Emmet Thomas, Al (Tiny) Frankenberg and John O’Brien Sr.
They disbanded in 1976.
