The Chesapeake Cavaliers drum and bugle corps was originally formed as the Chesapeake Black Knights and sponsored by the Morrell American Legion (AL) Post 137 of Baltimore.
In 1963, the corps reorganized under the Post 137 “Sons of American Legion” and were renamed the Chesapeake Cavaliers. In their inaugural season of field competition, the corps placed 6th at the 1964 MD AL state convention, returning the following year, where they finished 5th at the 1965 state contest. In 1966, the Cavaliers participated in competition as members of the Eastern States circuit.
The corps remained active until at least 1972.
