The 49ers drum and bugle corps was formed initially as a competitive color guard in 1963 and was sponsored by the Whiteman Davidson American Legion (AL) Post 49 of Tilton.
The corps was originally founded as an “All Age” corps in 1961 and a Parent Booster Club, along with members of the senior group, organized the junior corps in 1963. They were members of the New Hampshire and All American circuits and entered the field of competition in 1966. The 49ers participated in the prelims of the AL National championships in 1966 and 1967, placing 47th and 51st
respectively. In 1968, the corps placed 9th in the Yankee circuit “Class B” championships, competing regionally over the next two seasons.
They disbanded in 1971.
