The Crimson Kings was originally formed in 1953 as a drum, fife and bugle corps based out of New York city.

They were the oldest and most honored Asian-American drum corps in the east coast dedicated to youth development through music and performing arts education. The corps was dedicated to preserving rich musical traditions and the ideals of community service as a non-profit youth arts organization based in the heart of New York’s Chinatown.

The unit was proudly performing shows, concerts and parades every year representing the only Asian-American fife, drum, and bugle corps on the East Coast. It had been a second home and family for the scores of members to have proudly worn the Red and Gold.

In 1979, the group converted to a drum & bugle corps as a member of the Garden State Circuit (GSC) and competed for the next five seasons, placing 2nd in the “Intermediate Class” from 1979 to 1981 and graduated to the “Class A” division, finishing in 11th position in 1982 and 10th in 1983.

The corps reverted back to parade and exhibition status from 1984 to 1989, returning to standstill competition in the GSC over the next two years before entering the field of competition one last season, placing 4th in the 1992 GSC “Division II” class, reverting back to a parade and exhibition corps the following year.

They remained active in the Chinese community until 2019 but disbanded after the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic.
