The Colonial Cadets drum and bugle corps was organized in November of 1955 by the Colonial Cavaliers senior drum corps. The program was instituted as a youth movement to provide opportunities for boys and to keep the ranks of the senior corps by graduating young men in the organization.

In their first two years of activity, the corps was a parade and exhibition unit and entered the field of competition in 1958, when they were crowned the Capital District Junior Drum Corps Council champions. They participated in Capital District competition in 1959 and returned to parade and exhibition status in 1960.

The corps was famous throughout the Hudson Valley area. Corps directors over the years included Don Becker and Fred Tierney.

They disbanded in 1961 when the senior corps merged to form the Criterions.
