The Evanston Lancers drum and bugle corps was originally formed as the Wildcat Boy Scouts in 1947, under the leadership of N.W. Rodelius and sponsored by the Evanston Elks Club\and the Flanders American Legion (AL) Post.
The corps was initially composed of Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Evanston troops and Posts as the Scout unit participated in several parades and exhibitions in their formative years, including the National Scout Jamboree. Representing Evanston, the corps participated in the 1951 Elks National convention, winning the “Junior” title.
The group dropped its affiliation with the Boy Scouts in 1952 and reorganized as the Evanston Lancers and competed both regionally and out-of-state and qualified in the Illinois AL state finals for three consecutive years, placing 6th in 1953, 4th in 1954 & 5th in 1955.
They disbanded in 1956.
