Flamingo Lancers

The Flamingo Lancers drum and bugle corps was formed on March 21^st, 1965, through a merger between the Optimist Flamingos of Salem & the Royal Lancers of Portland and was sponsored by the Salem Optimist Club & the 58^th Division American Legion (AL) Post of Portland.

The purpose of the 1965 merger was to create a larger corps to participate in the AL National championships held in Portland. The corps, under the direction of Courtney Jones & Bruce Plumb, performed for one season, placing 2^nd in the 1965 Oregon AL state convention and the AL Nationals, finishing in 13^th position in the preliminary round. Their instructional staff included Ron Terry on brass, Bruce Plumb on visual and Raymond Carl on guard.

After the competition season, both corps reorganized separately.
