The Debutantes “All-Girls” drum & bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1954 and were sponsored by the VFW Post 5129 of Quincy.
The corps’ colors were red, white, and black and in fact had two sets of uniforms; all black for parades and day-time competitions and all white for night competitions with white winged draped red accents and white plumed hats. They entered the field of competition in 1955 as members of the 49th State circuit, placing 5th in the championships and participated in the Illinois State Fair preliminaries.
Over the next 3 seasons, the Quincy unit finished in the “Top 5” in the VFW state championships, placing 5th in 1956 and 4th the in 1957 and 1958 contests, their final year of competition. That year saw the corps attract a lot of attention for their excellent brass line. The drum corps remained active in 1959 as a parade and exhibition group.
They ceased operations in 1960, followed their drill team in 1961.
