The Dillonaires drum and bugle corps was organized in the fall of 1952, named after their founder, Harold Dillon and sponsored by the American Legion (AL) Post 248 and VFW Post 2717, both of Ely.
After its first year of activity in 1953, the Dillonaires became perennial Legion state “Junior” champions during its entire competitive existence between 1954 to 1961. They participated in the 1955 AL Nationals, sporting their off-white and black uniform with white trim, placing 14th in the preliminaries. They appeared again in the 1959 AL Nationals, this time dressed in their gleaming red blouses, black pants and red-plumed shakos, finishing 17th in the prelims.
They disbanded in 1962.
