The Boys Club Gents drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1959 as part of the Trinity parish house Tile program and sponsored by the Mothers Council, conducted by John F. Boone.

The boys played several musical selections and drill routines under the musical and drill direction of Edward Gutlie. They participated in several parades, concerts and civic events, including parade competitions in the American Legion and VFW.

In 1963, Thomas Hastings took over managing the corps as they continued to entertain the community and surrounding areas, and the following season saw John Almeida take over the reigns and praised the Council for performing in new their uniforms and equipment. In 1965, the corps entered the field of competition as members of the “Class B” Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island circuits.

The Gents continued to field competition the following year under the direction of Edward Gutlie and finished 3rd in the 1967 Rhode Island circuit championships. The corps joined the Mayflower circuit for the 1968 competitive season. In the latter years, they were also known as the Starlighters.

They disbanded in 1969.
