The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps was formed as an independent unit in 1950 from the ashes of the Fort Madison VFW Post 1805, when they lost sponsorship from the Hartman Dawson VFW Post 1805.
In their inaugural season of competition, the corps went on to compete in the “Class B” division at the infamous “Spectacle of Music”, held in Milwaukee. They placed 3rd in 1950, 4th in 1952 and 10th in 1953, their final season of competition.
They disbanded in 1954.
