The Dukes of Muskyland drum and bugle corps was originally founded July 13th, 1950, as the Frank Dirrigl - Richard G. Sawales American Legion Post 182.
They entered the field of competition as a “Class B” contender in the 1951 state convention, placing 5th, sporting their red and blue uniforms with gold helmets. Over the next 6 years, the corps went on to win the state “Class B” title in 1952 and consecutively from 1954 to 1957, placing 2nd in 1953.
Along with the strong contest performances, the Post 182 eventually grew to be in such demand to make appearances across Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula Michigan that the group had no choice but to decline some invitations. In 1960, the corps, amid restructuring to deal with a decrease in Legion members performing with the group, was renamed the Dukes of Muskyland, appearing as a parade unit until 1967.
They disbanded in 1968.
