The Ballentine Camptowners drum and bugle corps was originally formed in 1940 by the Edward D. Ballentine VFW Post 399 of Irvington.
The corps won the 1941 NJ VFW state championship in their first year of competition. They remained active during World War II as a parade and exhibition corps until 1946.In 1947, the Ballentine group left off where they started by returning to field competition and winning the NJ VFW state championships.
Over the next two seasons, the corps remained competitive and, in the fall of 1949, under new sponsorship of the Camptown VFW Post 1941 of Irvington, were renamed the Ballentine Camptowners.
They competed for the 1950 season before disbanding in 1951.
