The Charter Oak Sabres Seniors drum and bugle corps was organized in May of 1959 when members 19 years old and up from the junior corps became a senior corps and was sponsored by the Robert E. Collins American Legion (AL) Post 131 of Hartford.
The corps performed as a parade and exhibition unit their first two seasons before entering the field of competition in the Connecticut AL state convention, placing 4th in the “Class B” contest. The following year, the Sabres competed in the 1962 “All-American” circuit before returning to parade status in 1963. After a year of absence from competition, the Charter Oak group performed once again on the field, competing in both the “All-American” and Yankee circuits over the next two seasons, remaining active in 1966.
They disbanded in 1967.
