The Dukes drum and bugle corps was formed in January of 1932 as the Carlisle Bennet America Legion (AL) Post 13, based in Albuquerque. The corps’ colors were goldenrod and red.
Over their first 30 years, the corps entertained locally and regionally in parades, exhibitions and special events, entering the field of competition as the Dukes of Albuquerque in 1962, placing 7th in the finals of the AL National championships. They competed the following season out West, returning to the 1964 AL Nationals, where they finished in 6th position.
In 1965, the corps refocused its resources to form a junior corps but remained active for an amazing 55 years through volunteer musicians from all walks of life. Although some had military background, most members were united by their love of music, still operating as a concert band as of 2025.
