The Berkshire Marauders drum and bugle corps was formed in November of 1956 through a merger between the Berkshire Rangers of North Adams and the Shire City Sparks of Pittsfield. They were initially sponsored by the Pittsfield Permanent Firemen’s association and were under the direction of Joseph M. DeMartino.
By July of 1957, the Firemen’s association withdrew their support of the corps and in the process, reclaimed the instruments and uniforms, leaving the newly formed Marauders unable to field competitively for the 1957 season. They would eventually succeed in forming a parade corps that year. The following season, the Berkshire unit was on the field of competition as members of the 1958 Yankee circuit, placing a very respectable 5th in the finals.
In the spring of 1959, the corps would merge with the Empire State Grenadiers of Cohoes to form the popular Interstatesmen.
