The Armstrong Yellow Jackets drum and bugle corps was initially organized as members of the Armstrong Hose Company junior corps pre-World War II returned and formed the Armstrong Hose Company senior corps in 1946.
Their primary role was to participate in firemen events that included parades and exhibitions until 1951. They were a very popular unit regionally and competed throughout their history in several parades, winning many awards. In 1949, the corps became the Armstrong Yellow Jackets, sponsored by the Armstrong Hose Company and entered the field of competition within the Central PA circuit in their red, white and blue uniforms.
Although the corps did compete in the field between 1949 to 1957, competing in, amongst other cities, Ridgeway, Niagara Falls, NY and Canada, they were mostly renowned for their parade competitive success over the years. In 1958, the Armstrong unit remained active in parade events but went inactive in 1959 due to the lack of personnel, returning to activity the following season.
In 1961, the Yellow Jackets merged with the Kane Kadets.
