The Buccaneers senior drum and bugle corps was organized from a nucleus of former members of the Bath Legion Cadets junior corps in November of 1958, under the direction of Robert Lowery.
Over the course of 1959, the corps committee recruited and fundraised, making their first public appearance in September of that year. The following season, the Buccaneers were accepted as members of the Northeastern circuit, where they placed 9th in preliminary action and were crowned the 1960 state champions.
In 1961, the corps repeated as state champions and placed 12th in the Northeastern championship prelims. The 1962 season met with disappointment for the corps when they placed 14th at the Northeastern., circuit championships. Subsequently, in 1963, the corps reorganized as a junior corps. A partial list of instructional staff included Francis Bennett on brass, Albert LaFlamme on percussion, Rolland Pelland on marching, Daniel Snow and Clyde Wetherington on guard and Paul Guerette as corps manager.
In the fall of 1965, the corps attempted to remain active by combining both the junior and former senior members, creating an “All-Age” corps. However, the venture didn’t succeed, and the Buccaneers disbanded in 1966.
