The Crusaders drum and bugle corps of Prospect was formed in September of 1958 under the leadership of twin brothers, Fred and Fran Zaugg as a self-sustaining unit.
During the first two years, trumpets were used and, in the fall of 1960, rotary valve bugles were purchased, followed shortly by new drums. In 1961, the Crusaders climaxed their success by winning the New York State Fair title in the parade field competition division, entering more parade field competitions in 1962.
On July 27th, 1963, the Prospect group entered the field of competition for the first time in their history in Ogdensburg in their resplendent uniforms of green blouses accented with the white “Crusaders” cross on the breast and green feathered shakos.
The corps merged with the Blackhawks of Utica in 1964 to form the Executives.
