The Auburn AL Post 23 was organized in the fall of 1928 under the direction of Charles Grovenburg. They made their first public appearance in connection with the Armistice day celebration.
The Post 23 corps performed with honors at their first NE AL championships, placing 4th in 1929 as the crowd showed great enthusiasm. The following year, the corps made a most excellent showing in the face of strong competition, winning first place in the 1930 state championships.
Over the next 4 seasons, the corps was bridesmaid at the state championships, with 4 consecutive 2nd place finishes. Over the course of that stretch, they were awarded the 1931 Kinder trophy as the most outstanding civic achievement that year. In 1935, the corps experienced its most successful season by winning their second state championships and placed 45th at the American Legion Nationals held in St. Louis in their recently purchased white wool uniforms with silver trimming and cadet hats and plumes.
The Auburn Post returned to a 2nd place finish at the 1936 state championships before voting to disband in 1937 as many members found their business affairs would not permit the corps the time to maintain a championship organization.
