The Comets “Senior” drum and bugle corps was formed in September of 1960 and was sponsored by the Norway and Paris American Legion (AL) Posts.
They entered the field of competition in 1961 as contenders in the Maine AL state championships, where they placed 2nd in the “Class A” division. They repeated as 2nd place finishers in the 1962 state convention and competed as members of the Northern Northeast circuit, placing 2nd in the 1963 championships. The Comets reverted to a parade corps for the 1964 season, winning the 1964 Maine state “Parade” title and returned one last season to field competition in 1965 before converting back to an “All Age” parade corps in 1966.
As the corps’ membership migrated towards more teenagers, the Comets “Seniors” disbanded and reorganized as a “Junior” unit in 1967.
