Abénakis drum and bugle corps was originally formed in the fall of 1973 when the Gaies Bernières “All-Girls” parade corps went coed as members of the FAMQ “Class C” drum and trumpet division.
In 1974 & 1975, the corps placed 4th and 2nd respectively in the FAMQ “Class C” championships before entering the field of competition in1976 at both the CQJA with a 12th place finish and the FAMQ championships. The following season, they returned to both championships, showing improvement year over year with finishes of 9th position at the CQJA and 5th place at the FAMQ “Class B” championships.
In 1978, the corps emerged at their only national contest as competitors in the “Class B” World Open championships, finishing in 20th position. Abénakis performed at the 1979 FAMQ “Class B” preliminaries, missing out by one spot for a finalist appearance. Over the next two seasons the corps went inactive but reorganized in the fall of 1981, operating locally before returning to the field of competition in 1983 in the FAMQ “Class C” division.
In 1984, they competed at the FAMQ “Class C” championships with an 8th place finish before merging in 1985 with a splinter group of the Renaissance of Saint Georges to form the Constellation.
