The Desert Knights drum and bugle corps was founded in the fall of 1971 by Dick DeChaine, a former member of the Connecticut Yankees, and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Council 1200, the Morgan McDermott American Legion (AL) Post 7 and later the JohnP. Burns AL Post 36, all of Tucson.
Initially a parade and exhibition corps, the Desert Knights entered the field of competition, sporting uniforms consisting of a cape and chapeau and the color guard white peasant outfits, and won the 1973 Arizona state championships, defending their title the following season. In 1975, the Knights placed 2nd in the AZ Legion contest and remained active over the next few years, winning the 1978 AZ VFW state championships, participating in the 1979 AZ AL state convention, and lastly returned to parade status in their final season.
They disbanded in 1981.
