The Firemen-Vaqueros drum and bugle was formed through a merger between the Firemen of Elk Grove and the Vaqueros of Elmhurst in 1979.
The corps participated in all 3 National championships, including the 1979 American Legion & VFW Nationals, placing 7th & 9th respectively in the finals and the DCI “Class A” preliminaries, finishing in 10th position. They also participated in the Drum Corps Midwest circuit championships, ranking 15th in the preliminaries.
After one season of activity, both organizations split and returned to field competition separately in 1981.
