The Cyclones drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1958 under the leadership of Howard “Buffy” Ogle and sponsored by the John H. Collins American Legion egion Post 24 of Derby.

In their inaugural season, as members of the Yankee circuit, the corps was crowned the 1959 “Class B” champions and from 1960 to 1970, the Derby unit entertained as a parade and exhibition corps. In 1971, they re-entered the field of competition as members of the Northeast circuit.

In September of 1971, the Cyclones lost their founder, Mr. Ogle, who died suddenly and they disbanded in 1972.
