The Fort Madison VFW Post 1805 drum and bugle corps was formed in November 1938 and was sponsored by the Hartman-Dawson VFW Post 1805 of Fort Madison.
In their inaugural season of competition, the corps won their first of 3 Iowa VFW state convention “Class A” championships in 1939 and winning the 1948 & 1949 state titles in the “Class B” division. The Post 1805 also participated in the 1948 VFW Nationals.
In 1950, the Hartman-Dawson Post decided it would no longer support the drum corps and they reorganized independently as the Cavaliers.
