The Firemen drum and bugle corps was formed in 1977 and sponsored by the local Elk Grove Firemen department.
The corps was a member of the Mid-America circuit and competed in the 1978 DCI Midwest preliminary round, placing 29th before merging the following season with the Vaqueros of Elmhurst to form the Firemen-Vaqueros. Both organizations split after one year, as the Firemen went on to a 9th place finish in the 1980 Illinois State Fair.
During their short existence, the corps purchased the first custom Slingerland Fire Engine Red pearl cortex wrap drums ever made. At an exhibition in Wheeling, Fred Sanford and the Santa Clara Vanguard were so impressed by the color, they had Slingerland outfit them with new drums identical to theirs.
They disbanded in 1981.
