The Corvets drum and bugle corps was organized on January 12th, 1953, and was originally sponsored by the Madison County Council VFW Post, which consisted of 20 VFW
Posts in the surrounding area. They were initially under the direction of Charles Vanausdoll and Claude Smith.
The corps’ first appearance was at the 1953 Memorial Day parade, sporting Royal blue pants, gold blouses, red sashes, gold shakos, white shoves and gloves, incorporating the colors of the VFW. They placed 3rd in the 1953 VFW state parade and entered the field of competition that same year with a 5th place finish in the IL State Fair contest.
They continued to progress competitively over the next two seasons, joining the 49th State circuit in 1955, placing 7th in the championship contest. In September of that year, the Jerseyville VFW Post 4528 purchased the instruments and uniforms from the Madison County Council Post and became full sponsors of the Corvets. In 1956, the ranked 5th in the 49th circuit championships and participated in the 1957 IL VFW state convention. In 1958, the corps went inactive before reorganizing with students of grade school age, returning to the 49th State competition circuit from 1959 to 1961.
The remained active in 1962 before disbanding in 1963.
