The Capitol American Legion (AL) Post 1 of Topeka was formed in February of 1921 as the Topeka Trumpeters and Drum Corps, under the direction of Dr. T.S. Morrison and George McDermott.

They made their first appearance at the Hall Legion in March and appeared in the 1921 AL Nationals, where they placed 3rd as the Capitol AL Post 1 drum and bugle corps. Over the next 4 seasons, the Topeka unit competed in the Kansas state championships, hosting the event in 1924.

They disbanded in 1926.
