The Ebony Guard drum and bugle corps was organized in 1975 under the leadership of William D. Latimore.
The corps entered the drum corps scene in style, traveling to Florida in their 1976 inaugural season, as they played in exhibition that year, continuing to build as a parade and performance unit over the next 2 years. They participated in their first field competition on record in 1979 and qualified for finals in the Illinois State Fair, placing 10th, followed by a 13th place finish in the 1982 State Fair preliminaries, a 5th position in the 1985 “Class A/60” IL State Fair division and participated once again in the prelims in 1986.
After another season of parades and exhibitions, the Ebony Guard returned to the field as members of the Drum Corps Midwest “Class A/60” circuit, where they placed 15th in 1988 and 18th in 1989, both in the preliminary round. Over the next 2 years, they continued to entertain, participating in several local and regional events.
They disbanded in 1992.
