In January of 1968, the Centurions drum & bugle corps was formed by a Parents committee after the local Enfield American Legion Post 154 decided it would no longer support the Trailblazers.

They adopted the Centurion theme and name, complete with Roman-style uniforms of maroon and gold, and guard costumes modeled after togas. In their inaugural season of competition, the corps was a member of the Yankee circuit, placing 7th at the 1968 championships. The following season, the corps moved up the “Class C” ranks with a 3rd place finish at the 1969 Yankee circuit championships In 1970, the Enfield unit entered regional competition with appearances at the World Open “Class B” prelims, placing 19th and finished in 8th position at the Mid-America circuit championship finals. The following season saw the corps win the 1971 Yankee circuit “Class B” title along with a 5th place finish at the Northeastern circuit championships.

The Centurions returned to the 1972 World Open championships, placing 32nd in the “Class A” prelims and improved to a 4th place finish at the Northeastern contest. The next year, they continued to progress with a 28th place finish at the 1973 World Open “Class A” preliminaries, a 7th position at the Northeastern and won the Yankee circuit “Class A” title. In 1974, the corps focused on regional championships, participating at the DCI East contest, placing 17th in the prelims and finished 25th in the “Class A” World Open preliminaries. The 1975 season was somewhat of a rebuild year for the corps with a 10th place finish at the Northeastern circuit contest.

Over their last two seasons, the Centurions reclassified to compete in the “Class B” division, finishing 4th at both the 1976 and 1977 World Open finals and mirror imaged their 4th place finishes at the 1976 and 1977 Northeastern championships. They took the high percussion trophy in 1977.

A membership decline and financial debt drove the corps to disband in 1978. In May 2010, a group of former members formed the Centurions alumni.
