The East Coast Junior Jazz drum and bugle corps was originally formed in 1991 by the Metropolitain Youth Services Association of Malden as the East Coast Jazz Cadets and based in the Harbor Point area of Dorchester. Tom Chopelas was one of the founders.
The corps entered the field of competition as members of the Eastern Massachusetts (E-Mass) circuit, placing 2nd in the 1992 “Class C” division and was crowned the 1993 E-Mass “Class C” champions. In 1994, they integrated into the East Coast Jazz drum corps and were reinstated in 1998 as the East Coast Junior Jazz, entering the field of competition once again in the E-Mass circuit, where they were crowned the 1999 “Class C” champions.
After one last season of activity, they disbanded in 2001.
