The Conquerors drum and bugle corps traced its roots back to August of 1935, when the Belado-Crowley American Legion (AL) Post 276 of Millers Falls organized the Sons of AL Post 276 corps with 27 members.

In the early stages, the corps was led by Philip LaCasse and became popular both regionally and statewide, participating in many civic events and parades from their inception to 1941. With the outbreak of World War II, the corps went inactive until October of 1945, when the junior unit reorganized under the leadership of Raymond Bartlett and Wesley Felton.

Upon their return, the Millers Falls AL Post 276 junior corps, sporting yellow and blue pants, entered the field of competition in 1946. The following year, the group once again reorganized as an independent, self-supporting unit, known as the Millers Falls Corps and competed as members of the MA Fife, Drum Corps Association (MFDCA) “Senior Class”. In 1948, they sponsored their first of many drum corps competitions and in 1950, after Wesley Felton’ retirement, participated in the annual MFDCA Muster, where they placed 2nd

Over the next 3 years, the corps placed 3rd in the annual MFDCA Muster competition and were crowned the 1954 champions, continuing to participate in the annual contest over the next two years. In 1957, membership had declined, and the corps regrouped as a parade unit, returning to the field as new members of the newly formed Yankee circuit the following year. The Millers Falls corps placed 8th in the inaugural 1959 Yankee circuit “Class A” championships and, under their new name “Conquerors”, they finished in 9th position.

The corps competed in the “Class B” division of the circuit, placing 6th in both the 1961 and 1962 championships and concluded their final season of field competition within the Yankee circuit in 1963. From 1964 through to 1975, the Conquerors remained active as a parade and exhibition unit, moving to Turners Falls in 1976 for one last year of activity.

They disbanded in 1977.
