The Carl Sidney Hanson American Legion (AL) Post 255 of Brainerd was formed in 1936 as the Ladies Auxiliary branch of the Legion Post.
Known as the Brainerd Ladies, the corps participated in parades and exhibitions throughout their history that included appearances in the Minnesota state and Elks conventions and the Aquatennial annual parade, placing 1st in all of these events at different times of their storied past.
Initially, the ladies uniforms were blue and white and after World War II, the unit sported a new red and gold uniform. In fact, in 1950, on their way to the Aquatennial parade, a fire broke out in the chartered bus luggage compartment but the members managed to save both their uniforms, although a few were a little singed, and their instruments, except for their big base drum.
They disbanded in 1955.
