The Carl Anderson American Legion (AL) Post 262 drum and bugle corps of Cloquet was originally planned through a committee in 1928 but insufficient interest delayed the corps’ foundation. In early 1929, the Post 262, under the direction of L. D. Gerin, reorganized and successfully formed a parade and exhibition unit.
From 1930 to 1936, the maroon-suited corps participated in several municipal and state convention parades, as well as many municipal and community events. They went inactive in 1937 but did sponsor both a “Sons of American Legion” and women’s auxiliary corps.
In 1947, the corps regrouped, performing in regional activities before entering the field of competition for the first time in the corps’ history, placing 2nd in the 1948 MN AL state “Class B” championships. The following year saw the Anderson Legion unit crowned the 1949 “Class B” state champions and moved up to the “Class A” division, placing 3rd in the 1950 state contest.
The corps remained active one more season before disbanding in 1952.
