The Colleens “All-Girls” drum and bugle corps was organized in 1944 by Monsignor Edward L. O’Toole, pastor at the St. John Apostle and Evangelist church.
The corps sported green-clad uniforms and performed mainly as a parade and exhibition unit at fairs, homecomings and patriotic events in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The St. Louis American Legion (AL) Post 187 was a longtime sponsor of the group.
Competitively, the Colleens participated at the 1954 AL Nationals in Washington, DC, placing 26th in the prelims and placed 6th in the 1955 49th State circuit championships. They continued to contend within the Midwest until at least 1958 and remained active, entertaining crowds until 1968.
They disbanded in 1969.
