The East Germantown Indians drum and bugle corps was originally formed as the West Oak Lane Community corps and sponsored by the Oak Lane Community Association of Philadelphia.
In March of 1936, the corps reorganized under new sponsorship from the East Germantown VFW Post 2917 of Philadelphia as the East Germantown VFW Cadets. They were active throughout 1936 to 1941 and regrouped after World War II in 1946, re-entering the field competition the following season as the East Germantown VFW Indians.
The next 2 years proved to be the most successful for the unit, placing 2nd in the VFW state championships both in 1948 & 1949 as well as finishing a runner-up in the 1949 VFW Nationals. From 1950 to 1953, the corps remained active between parades, exhibitions and competitions dressed in their familiar red and gray uniforms.
They disbanded in 1954.
