In the fall of 1952, William Milliken organized the Bath Legion Cadets drum and bugle corps under the sponsorship of the Smith-Tobey American Legion (AL) Post 21.
The Cadets opened tryouts for the boys and girls of Bath in May of 1963 as the corps performed in parades and exhibitions in their inaugural season of activity. The following year, the corps was awarded the 1954 Maine AL state “Class A” title, a trophy they would go on to defend over the next three seasons, from 1955 to 1957.
They also competed at the American Legion Nationals in 1955, placing 15th, in 1957, finishing 22nd and 1958, where the corps placed 23rd. In 1964, the Bath Cadets participated in the World Open championships, placing 39th in the prelims.
In the fall of 1958, William Milliken announced he would be relocating to Millinocket, leaving his position vacant. Unfortunately, the Legion Post was unable to replace the corps director and they ultimately disbanded in 1959.
