The Blue Devils C drum and bugle corps was formed in 1973 when the Blue Devils junior drum and bell corps was converted to a “B” bugle corps, and an even younger-aged “C” bugle corps was established. The Blue Devils C (BDC) corps is primarily a feeder corps for the Blue Devils B.
Generally, a younger and less competitive unit than the organization’s two other corps, the BDC is the youngest of the three (sometimes four) drum and bugle corps sponsored by BD Performing Arts. Once considered as merely the “cute corps”, BDC displays competency as well. The unit was strictly a parade and exhibition corps until becoming a field competition corps in 2001.
Membership is made up of students ages seven through fourteen coming almost exclusively from Contra Costa and Solano Counties, east of San Francisco, California. Among its many exhibitions, BDC has had the honor of performing for the 1996 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team, the San Francisco Giants, and the Special Olympians of Contra Costa County.
Since 2001, except for a parade season in 2003, the corps has participated at the local level of the DCI “Open Class” division. In 2007, they competed at the DCI “Division III” World championship preliminaries, held in Pasadena. After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the corps was also inactive in 2021, returning to the field in 2022, remaining competitive at DCI “Open Class” sanctioned regional contests.
