The Black Diamond Regiment drum & bugle corps was formed through a merger between the Belvederes of Schuylkill Haven and the Highlanders of Hazleton in the spring of 1977. They were a member of the Eastern States Circuit.
In their inaugural season, they competed at the 1977 American International Open (AIO) & US Open “Open Class” division, placing 14th and 18th respectively and concluded that year with a 5th place finish at the Eastern States championships finals. They followed up the next season with a 6th place finish at the 1978 Eastern States championships.
In 1979, they participated at the DCI East “Class A” championships with a 10th place in prelims and the World Open “Class A” preliminaries, placing 23rd. Their 6th place finish at the Eastern States championships would prove to be their final competitive performance.
In February 1980, the Highlander organization filed suit against the Belvederes claiming that they had provided various musical instruments that they request be returned. This ultimately caused the corps to disband that year.
Among its instructional staff were 2 future Hall of Famers, Donnie Van Doren on brass and Jim Prime, brass arranger, who got his first start with the Black Diamond Regiment.
